ratiopharm Ulm and Bree participated in a controlled scrimmage which was outstanding for both teams.  After one full quarter of action, the teams took turns with sets of three possessions on offense working halfcourt with one conversion.  A variety of aspects were focused on including man to man offense-defense, transition game/end of break, zone offense-defense, presses and sideline and endline plays.  The controlled scrimmage allowed both teams opportunity to provide immediate instruction and focus on specific areas needing practice and repetition.  To finish the evening, the teams played a final full 10 minute quarter.  The only negative of the night was Ulm's talented young point guard Per Gunther taking an elbow to the mouth and chipping his tooth.  Per would be ok and receive dentist treatment and a fixed tooth Thursday morning in Bree.

Ulm Tops Bree Thursday at Training Camp!

Completing their three day work with Bree, ratiopharm Ulm played without several key players but rallied together for a terrific team performance in topping Bree 79-75 Thursday night at Expodroome in Bree.  While Dru Joyce and Romeo Travis were excused from training camp for the weekend to travel to the International Film Festival in Toronto, Ontario Canada for the debut of 'More than a Game', a docmentary about their high school times with LeBron James and the impact of basketball on their lives, ratiopharm Ulm prepared for their second meeting with Bree adjusting their lineup. Adding to the shortened lineup card, talented 20 year old point guard Per Gunther would miss Thursday nights game after having his chipped tooth fixed earlier in the day.  Lee Humphrey started at the point and Keith Triplett at the three with Dan Fitzgerald also receiving minutes at the small forward.  Hardworking wings Sebastian Betz and captain Emeka Erege also took advantage of the opportunity.  Ulm's hot shooting helped them build a 43-36 halftime lead. Just like Tuesday nights game, Bree responded with a third quarter run and tied the game at 55 heading into the fourth quarter. Ulm went on a run and built an 11 point advantage before Bree cut the lead benefiting from 4 straight free throws after an transition foul and Ulm technical foul.  With 5 minutes remaining, Ulm held a 71-65 lead and maintained down the stretch holding off the Bree comeback.  An excellent team effort, Ulm created 21 steals, hit 13 of 29 threes, 12 of 17 free throws and 47% from the floor. Lee Humphrey buried 6 of 9 threes for 22 points while Basti Betz nailed 4 of 7 threes for 20 points plus 5 rebounds.  An active Keith Triplett collected 13 points 4 rebounds and 4 steals and Jeff Gibbs finished with 8 points 7 boards.  Bree was led by scoring guard Ronnie McCollum who finished with 18 points, Josip Vucica 13 points, Odell Hodge with 12 points 7 rebounds and Ryan Moss 11 points 6 rebounds. The three competitive evenings in Bree included two quality preseason games and one excellent controlled scrimmage.  Both teams benefitted greatly from the work.

Checking out of Centreparcs just after a team breakfast, ratiopharm Ulm completed their final practice of the training camp in Bree at the Expodroome from 1130 to 130pm.  Focusing on feedback from Thursday nights game against Bree, the team continued to build positive habits and take the next steps with offensive and defensive systems.  Completing practice, the team loaded up and hit the road to Aalst Belgium where they checked into their hotel and enjoyed a team dinner provided by the Aalst team.  Following their intense mid-week work in Bree, ratiopharm Ulm players were happy to have time at the hotel.  Preseason means hardwork and most of the team lost their legs after their strong effort in Bree.  For ratiopharm Ulm, Friday night was all about rest.
