Saturday night at Sportszentrum Kuhberg in Ulm, ratiopharm Ulm returns to their 2010-2011 schedule after enjoying the All Star break last week.  For the Ulm team, the week away from the gym came at a terrific time as the schedule kept Ulm practicing and playing through the Christmas and New Years holidays.  To finally have a few days to rest and relax and spend time with family, ratiopharm Ulm players and staff enjoyed the All Star break thoroughly.  Taking on the streaking Braunschweig in their first game back from the break presents a tremendous challenge as the Phantoms enter Kuhberg on a 4 game win streak.  Last season

the Phantoms knocked off the Bundesliga regular season first place finishers Ewe Baskets Oldenburg in a memorable first round playoff series last spring.  Earning the 8th seed in the 2009-2010 playoffs, Braunschweig upset Oldenburg before falling to eventual champions brose Baskets Bamberg in the semifinals.

ratiopharm Ulm post man Sean Sonderleiter was excellent in the first game between the two teams with 14 points 9 boards.

Preparing for the talented Phantoms, Ulm faces a well-balanced opponent with plenty of offensive weapons.  On the perimeter, Braunschweig features talented and athletic players who are outstanding in one on one situations.  Returning from last seasons playoff team are two key guards, Kevin Hamilton and wing Brandon Thomas.  Skilled combo guard Kevin Hamilton leads the team extremely well and provides a versatile athlete who can distribute, defend and do the little things that helps his team to success.  Talented wing Brandon Thomas, provides quality scoring and strong defense for the Phantoms.  New additions to the Phantoms backcourt include former George Mason University guard Tony Skinn and talented former Temple guard LaMarr Greer.  An explosive athlete at the point guard position, Skinn does a tremendous job of penetrating and playmaking getting into the paint.  Meanwhile, Greer is an excellent scoring guard who can hit threes, create his own offense or make plays for others.  In the post, Braunschweig features high-level post player Marcus Goree. A go-to-guy who elevated the team after his midseason arrival last year, Goree ranks among the best big men in the Bundesliga and has been a key player for the Phantoms once again this season.  Alongside Goree, Braunschweig brought back former Phantoms center Kyle Visser after once season away in Ludwigsburg.  A true five man with good footwork and moves inside, Visser is one of the most experienced big men in the Bundesliga and will give the Phantoms a great combination with Goree.  Big man Jason Cain brings energy to the front court and gives the Phantoms a consistent, reliable, physical inside presence.  Forward Nils Mittmann, a former ratiopharm Ulm team captain, provides a perimeter shooting threat from the front court. Rounding out the roster, Jusuf El Domiaty, Nick Schneiders, Milan Obradovic and Daniel Theis will work to contribute throughout the season.
