Friday September 25th, 2009 Ulm Visits Bamberg for Saturday Scrimmage! ratiopharm Ulm travels to Bamberg Saturday for a preseason scrimmage at JAKO Arena that will be a challenging test for both teams. A playoff team from last season and a regarded among the best teams in the Bundesliga, brose Baskets Bamberg upgraded their team this offseason adding talented combo guard Brian Roberts (University of Dayton) and bringing back former Bundesliga Offensive Player of the Year Casey Jacobsen. As Saturday's scrimmage tips off at 6pm, ratiopharm Ulm will enjoy the addition of two key players to their rotation. Rookie forward Robin Benzing makes his first appearance since joining ratiopharm Ulm after a fantastic summer and European Championship run with the German National team. Along with Benzing, post player John Bryant returns after working through back problems most of the last three weeks of preseason in Ulm. Despite the addition of Robin and John, Ulm remains without potential starting backcourt players in point guard Per Gunther and sharpshooting captain Lee Humphrey. Closing preseason week 4 with the excellent test against Bamberg, ratiopharm Ulm has three preseason games remaining all against Bundesliga opponents. Team effort helps ratiopharm Ulm beat Bamberg! ratiopharm Ulm exploded to a 10-0 start and never looked back in beating brose Baskets Bamberg 96-79 Saturday night January 24th, 2009 at Sportszentrum Kuhberg in Ulm. BLAST OFF IN BAMBERG! ULM UPSETS BAMBERG IN SEASON OPENER! ratiopharm Ulm tipped off the 2008-2009 Bundesliga season with a memorable moment --- a terrific team performance resulting in an exciting 66-64 upset win over powerful brose Baskets Bamberg Wednesday night before 7,000 fans at JAKO Arena. Winless against Bamberg before Wednesday, ratiopharm Ulm was powered by an intense defensive effort and strong bench production. All Star power forward Jeff Gibbs went to work for a 16 point 12 rebound double double and rookie forward Dan Fitzgerald added 11 points off the bench in the win. Without injured starter Dru Joyce, 20 year old rookie Per Gunther was outstanding in his first Bundesliga start leading Ulm's attack with poise of a veteran.
