Ulm Falls to Bamberg in Scrimmage
ratiopharm Ulm lost power forward Christian Burns to an ankle injury early in the second half and the shorthanded Ulm squad fell off pace as brose Baskets Bamberg raced to an 85-69 victory in a Saturday scrimmage at JAKO Arena. Ulm entered Saturday's game without potential starting backcourt Per Gunther and captain Lee Humphrey, the team welcomed forwards Robin Benzing and John Bryant for their first game action of the preseason. Both Benzing and Bryant played well in their first action for Ulm and showed flashes of their potential. Both teams started strong and finished the first quarter even at 21. Elton Brown powered to 8 points 3 boards in the first quarter leading Bamberg while Rocky Trice, Coleman Collins and Christian Burns scored 6 points apiece to pace Ulm. Making an early second quarter run, Ulm took the lead 33-30 at the 5 minute mark as Christian Burns exploded for 15 points 7 boards in the first half. Bamberg battled back and made a late first half run that helped them take a 43-36 halftime lead. Unfortunately for Ulm, early in the third, Burns went down with an ankle injury forcing him to miss the remainder of the game. Bamberg capitalized and went on a 10-0 run to take control early in the third. Hot shooting and strong team play characterized the Bamberg attack. In his first preseason action with Ulm, forward Robin Benzing hit 3 of 7 shots to score 8 points with 2 rebounds 2 steals and 1 block in 33 minutes.
