With momentum from four wins in their last five games, ratiopharm Ulm meets defending champions brose Baskets Bamberg Sunday at Sportszentrum Kuhberg in Ulm.
Taking on Bamberg is always a big challenge, but Sunday's matchup against the defending champions takes an even greater intensity after Bamberg's outstanding season to this point. Rolling to 16 straight wins to open the year, Bamberg was upset on the road January 5th against last-placed Dusseldorf in a surprising result. On top of their motivation from their last game, Bamberg has been playing at an extremely high level since their Euroleague season came to a close. Without question, Bamberg raised their game after facing some of the best basketball teams in Europe and this confidence thrust them to the next steps of domination against Bundesliga opponents. A mentally tough and experienced team, Bamberg is the measuring stick for every team in the Bundesliga this 2010-2011 season.

One of ratiopharm Ulm's biggest challenges is stopping Bamberg star Casey Jacobsen.
Bamberg's 2010-2011 roster is better than ever as head coach Chris Fleming prepares his team to defend their Championship and Cup victories from last season. Leading the way is scoring wing Casey Jacobsen, who won the Bundesliga Best Offensive Player award with Bamberg in 2006-2007 when they won the Bundesliga championship under Dirk Bauermann. After playing the 2008-2009 season with ALBA Berlin, the former Stanford standout returned to Bamberg and helped lead them to another BEKO Bundesliga title. A talented player with 4 years of NBA experience, Jacobsen is a go-to scoring threat and looks to keep Bamberg at the top of the Bundesliga. Along with Casey Jacobsen, talented combo guard Brian Roberts returns to the Bamberg team and will provide a skillful scoring threat at both backcourt positions. The former Dayton Flyer guard is a creative scoring combo guard who uses his dribble well to open space for an outstanding pull up jumpshot. This season, Roberts has hit several big shots and made clutch baskets in the Euroleague for Bamberg.
Bamberg's Anton Gavel played a key role in winning last seasons championship
Point guard John Goldsberry has been among the top floor generals in the Bundesliga for the last several seasons. A talented playmaker who distributes well on offense while competing on the defensive end, Goldsberry will once again be a key figure for Bamberg. One of the reasons for the surprising upset loss in Dusseldorf was a Bundesliga suspension for the gritty point guard Goldsberry. Early last season, Bamberg inked talented playmaker Anton Gavel for one month. After playing a key role in Bamberg's drive to the Bundesliga championship, Bamberg kept the hardworking Slovakian guard on board. Gavel starred in the Bundesliga before playing successful seasons in Karlsruhe and Giessen before embarking on an international adventure that took him to the ACB in Spain. With Goldsberry, Gavel and Roberts, Bamberg boasts three outstanding guards that compliment one another well. In the front court, Bamberg loaded up. Returning from last season are scoring forward Predrag Suput and talented young center Tibor Pleiss. During Bamberg's playoff run, Predrag Suput stepped up for an outstanding postseason last year. Emerging as a force in the playoffs, the veteran Suput will once again be a go-to guy for Bamberg. Unfortunately for Bamberg, Suput sprained his ankle in their preseason win over Bayern Munich in Munich Thursday night September 23rd and will likely be out three weeks. Meanwhile, Tibor Pleiss was the Bundesliga rookie of the year last season and was drafted in the second round of the NBA draft last summer by the New Jersey Nets at #31. With his rights held by the Oklahoma City Thunder, Pleiss' looks to improve and gain experience this season with Bamberg. Along with Suput and Pleiss in the post, Bamberg added two outstanding pieces to their front court. Undersized center Kyle Hines brings a new dimension to the Bamberg game. Powerful and athletic, Hines is an outstanding rebounder and skillful finisher around the rim. Talented Reyshawn Terry brings his smooth game to Bamberg and the former North Carolina Tarheel and Dallas Maverick draft pick will complement his new teammates well. The additions of Hines and Terry give Bamberg tremendous weapons inside to complement the teams returning strengths on the perimeter. Depth comes from the teams young talents including hardworking guard Karsten Tadda, explosive young playmaker Maurice Stuckey and two quality young big men Eric Land and Philipp Neumann. Bamberg's talented roster is more powerful and better than ever. Focused to repeat as champions and Cup winners, brose Baskets Bamberg have asserted themselves as the team to beat in the 2010-2011 Beko Basketball Bundesliga.
Bamberg celebrates the 2009-2010 Beko Bundesliga Championship
This season, Bamberg also competed in the Euroleague playing in Group B against Lottomatica Roma, Olympiakos, Real Madrid and Unijaca Malaga. For brose Baskets Bamberg, the 2010-2011 season was filled with outstanding high level basketball against the best teams in Europe. These experiences pushed the Bamberg team forward and have them primed for their title defense in the Bundesliga.

ratiopharm Ulm point guard Travis Walton pushes the basketball in transition in Thursday's home win over the Deutsche Bank Skyliners.
Meanwhile, ratiopharm Ulm takes the floor Sunday with motivation of their own. With victories in four of their last five games, Ulm has made excellent steps forward from the beginning of the season. After starting the 2010-2011 season 0-4, Ulm has battled back to 8-9 at the midpoint of the year. Motivated for the challenge against the best team in the Bundesliga, ratiopharm Ulm takes momentum from their recent run into the game. Also adding momentum, Ulm sponsor FODDIS has put 5,000€ up for an Ulm win that will go to the youth teams and thrown in a steak dinner for the team if they can pull the upset over Bamberg. Certainly, all of Ulm is excited for Sunday's challenging game.

ratiopharm Ulm wing Sebastian Betz
Sunday's game is extra special for ratiopharm Ulm wing Sebastian Betz. Basti previously played in the Bamberg organization spending time with farm team Breitengussbach before moving to Ulm. In previous appearances at JAKO Arena, Betz has always been highly motivated and played well.

Focused for a matchup against the defending champions brose Baskets Bamberg, ratiopharm Ulm is excited for the challenge and ready to take on the Bundesliga's best. Follow all the fast breaking ratiopharm Ulm Bundesliga Basketball action all season long on Taylorhoops.com!
