Ulm Captures 1st Fritz & Macziol Cup!

The Fritz & Macziol Cup has featured outstanding teams over its five years of existance as a preseason tournament in Ulm.  Past champions have included Czech Republic power Nymburk, Italian first division team Reggio Emilia, Austrian power Gmunden Swans and Bundesliga teams DJK Wurzburg and Tubingen.  Despite strong showings every year, ratiopharm Ulm had never won their own preseason tournament --- until 2009.  With a newly formed young team playing through injuries and absence, ratiopharm Ulm claimed the organizations first Fritz & Macziol Cup championship Sunday afternoon at Sportszentrum Kuhberg with a 91-89 win over the All-Stars.  A terrific step to success, the young Ulm team worked hard and played well together over the three game weekend and made their mark as the first Ulm team to win the Fritz & Macziol Cup.
